The Russian Defense Ministry says that its troops are creating what it calls a “security zone” in the Sumy region, Ukraine. This was reported by the Interfax agency. Moscow’s statements cannot be verified at this .

The announcement occurs after the Russian authorities said they had regained total control of the Russian region of Kursk, which limits with the Ukrainian region of Sumy, and where the Ukrainian soldiers launched a surprise offensive summer.

kyiv rejects Moscow’s claims, arguing that he still has bastions in the Kursk region, but has lost much of the territory he took last year.

A few days ago, the governor of the Sumy region, Oleg Hryhorov, said the Russian troops were trying to create a damping zone in the northeast region of Ukraine, but, he said, without “any significant success.”

The Ukrainian governor then said that four border towns – Zhuravka, Veselivka, Basivka and Novenke – were in a “gray zone” due to the Russian attacks, but were not under the control of the Kremlin soldiers.

Last month, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have captured Zhuravka and Basivka, what the Ukrainian authorities deny.
