Guayaquil (Ecuador), May 4 (EFE) .- The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, met this Sunday with the president of Israel, Isaac Herzog, in Tel Aviv, an appointment in which the rulers talked about the importance of improving relationships and mutual support, especially in security issues, the Ecuadorian presidency reported.
Noboa arrived in Israel after leaving the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, as part of an international tour of Europe and Asia in which the president aims to visit seven countries in fifteen days until May 9.
At the meeting with Herzog, the Ecuadorian president said that the Andean country is also living “a war against terrorism”, and that Israel’s support is key to “collaborating with peace in the region.”
“Today we must provide security to people and generate employment for young people, and I’m sure Israel can help us,” he said.
He added that it will be “very valuable” for Ecuador to have the cooperation of Israel in technology and defense issues.
The event was also present at Ecuador’s Minister of Defense, Gian Carlo Loffredo, Interior, John Reimberg, and Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld.
For his part, President Herzog ratified the support and accompaniment of his country in this area and said he was sure that the relations between the two nations will improve, especially in internal and external security, which, he said, “is a priority.”
Ecuador has been found since 2024 in a state of “internal armed conflict” declared by Noboa to fight against organized crime bands, especially linked to drug trafficking, and those that happened to call “terrorists.”
Herzog also thanked Noboa for the declaration of the opening of a diplomatic office in Jerusalem, which, he said, is a “great advance for Israel.”
As part of the official agenda, President Noboa also held a meeting with the great Sephardic Rabbi of Israel, Shlomo Amar, and visited Yad Vashem, the main memorial of the country dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust.
Noboa, recently re -elected as president of Ecuador until 2029, also plans to visit Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and France as part of his international tour that began on April 24 in the Vatican, where he attended the funeral of Pope Francis. EFE
