Everything comes. That should think Rodolfo García and Pablo Vrlica, the Patagonian pioneers of the Kürüf beer, who rose with the gold medal in the world Beer Cup (WBC), known as “the beer Olympics” for being the most prestigious competition in the world.
“Another gold for an Argentine beer,” the Patagonians shared on their social networks, next to a video of the award ceremony. The award went to its “Brett for 3”, a mixed fermentation beer.
For those who are not familiar with this category, mixed fermentation combines yeasts, bacteria and unconventional microorganisms in elaboration, creating unique and complex flavors.
Of memories and joys
Rodolfo and Pablo surely smile when evoking the beginnings of their venture, founded in April 2011 in the San Pablo neighborhood of Cipolletti. They will remember when they decided to appoint their Kürüf project (which means “wind” in the Mapuche language), the ranks of people waiting with challenges to recharge their bottles or the enthusiastic response of the public that led them to implement a presale.
After more than a decade dedicated to artisanal beer from the heart of Cipolletti, this recognition, received at the United States Indian Convention Center, crowns its effort.
Global recognition
Created in 1996, the World Beer Cup celebrates the art and science of beer, highlighting various styles and flavor profiles while promoting excellence worldwide.
“When experts in the sector recognize the quality of products in the market, consumers can trust that these brands are the best,” said Chris Williams, director of competition, on social networks.
The WBC evaluates more than 100 categories, but does not automatically award the first three places. Only when the judges identify three outstanding examples of a style, gold, silver and bronze medals are delivered to the first, second and third place, respectively.
“Beer evaluation is a rigorous process,” said Williams. “At the professional level, it is a pairs review. The results are public, which allows consumers to know which beers comply with high quality standards and faithfully represent a style according to the judges.”
In some cases, judges can award prizes in one or two positions without covering all three. For example, they could reward with silver or bronze without assigning a gold, thus ensuring the excellence of the contest.
