This action is part of the First Attention Strategy for the homeless of Andalusiawhose objective is to reduce withouthogarism in the region with a new model of attention and prevention. The strategy, in which several councils participate, has a budget of more than 60 million euros.
López, who has also visited the Integral Center for people at risk of social exclusion Nuevo Hogar Bethania, has been accompanied by the mayor of the line, José Juan Franco Rodríguez; the General Director of Social Protection and Preferential Attention Barrians, Antonio Ismael Huertas; the territorial delegate of social inclusion, youth, families and equality in the province of Cádiz, Alfonso Candónand the director of Nueva Hogar Betania, Begoña Arana.
The new homeless center It will be located next to the main building of Nuevo Hogar Bethania and will have six five bedroom nuclei with a total of 54 places. Each core includes two bathrooms, living room and kitchen. In addition, the ground floor will have four offices and two workshops. The ownership of the space will be municipal and will be managed by New Bethany Hogar.
During the visit, the counselor has shown that Andalusia leads the change towards a more human and efficient model for homeless people, which puts the focus “in comprehensive care, which gives them the opportunity to recover their life” and leads resources “not only to the big cities, but to those enclaves where the needs are.”
Along these lines, he has asserted that withouthogarism is a reality “that until the arrival of the pandemic was invisible”, and thanked the team again Bethany his commitment to the most vulnerable groups, “always working with heart and humanity.”
For its part, the mayor of the line has recognized the work of third sector entities in the care of the people who need it most and has assured that this residential project, with an “important number of places”, will mark “a before and after in the development of a new Bethany home.”
Along these lines, he has opted for network work to “create among all a more just and inclusive society, and to deal with realities that are more frequent than desired.”
Finally, Begoña Arana, director of New Bethany, has emphasized the need to carry out projects of this size in spaces such as the line, “beyond the big cities.”
