Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski dismissed the offer of Russian president, Vladimir Putin, of a high fire fire, from May 7 to 9, describing it as “theatrical production.” Zelenski said that any significant truce should be extended for a minimum of 30 days.
In a press conference, Zelenski expressed his skepticism before Putin’s proposal: “The simple question is that they kill you until day 7, then on the 7th they do two or three comfortable days for them, and then on the 11th they attack us again with missiles. I see no proposal in that.” Instead, he suggested a high fire of at least 30 days, arguing that a shorter period is insufficient to achieve any substantial agreement. “A high unconditional fire is the model that Americans have proposed. We follow it. From this date or another, preferably before. Yes, we will try for 30 days. Why a high fire of 30 days? Because it is impossible to agree anything in three, five or seven days,” he said.
Zelenski also expressed concern about the safety of world leaders who plan to attend the May 9 parade in Moscow. “Our position is very simple for all the countries that traveled or travel to May 9: we cannot take responsibility for what happens in the territory of the Russian Federation. They provide them with security and, therefore, we will not give them any guarantee. Because we do not know what Russia will do at this time. It can take different steps, say, on the other hand: fires caused, bombardments, etc. He warned.
