Mining positioned Argentina in the first planes of the activity by informing the finding of a gold, silver and copper deposit, which they already cataloged as “one of the largest in the world.”
The announcement was made jointly by the BHP and Lundin Mining Corporation companies and, according to the first estimates of trafficking in one of the largest reserves of those without developing minerals on the planet.
Also, one of the project participating engineers stressed that “the amount of wealth that we must have in our subsoil has no idea.”
The discovery was made in the deposits that make up Vicuña, including José María and Filo del Sol, all located in the San Juan church town.
The discovery in numbers
In the case of Sun Filo, 606 million tons were found (M&I) with 1.14% Cueq, including 4.5 mt of copper, 9.6 gold moz and 259 silver moz.
Meanwhile, in Josemaría, 196 million tons were discovered (M&I) with 0.73% Cueq, equivalent to 978 thousand tons of copper, 2.4 gold and 11 silver moz.
According to the company’s estimates, both discoveries could increase, since they offer opportunities for expansion to the east and west ends.
Finally, it was reported that in the North and southern spike areas, indications of mineralization in perforations previously performed were discovered.
The CEO of the Jack Lundin company showed its satisfaction after the finding and, in that sense, explained that “Filo del Sol has been one of the most important discoveries of the last three decades.”
“This initial resource shows that we are facing one of the open -air copper projects of the highest law without developing in the world, and one of the largest gold and silver reserves too. Vicuña is ready to become a world -class mining complex,” he said.
