In recent years, Discord has become the main social network for gamers at the time of communicating with their friends and making games, becoming one of the most important communications platforms today with more than 200 million monthly active users and a base of more than 600 million accounts recorded in 2024.
And therefore, in a series of important changes, the co -founder and Executive Director of Discord, Jason Citron, will leave his position and will be replaced by Humam Sakhnini, exexecutive of Activision Blizzard and King, according to a press release. Sakhnini will assume the position on April 28, but Citron will remain on the Board of Directors and advise the Executive Director.
“At the beginning of our next phase, I have been reflecting on how I can contribute to the long -term success of Discord,” says Citron in a message shared with the employees and published on the Discord website. “The CEO position is constantly evolving, already throughout the years I have chosen to leave my job. Normally, that means delegating work and assume different leadership challenges. However, by analyzing the needs of a CEO of Discord in the coming years, I realize that it is time for me to literally leave my work.”
-Discord will now be directed by a veteran in the gaming industry
Sakhnini brings Discord more than 15 years of experience in the video game industry. Recently, he was Vice President of Activision Blizzard, where he managed a multimillion -dollar portfolio that included Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Candy Crush. Previously, as president of King Digital Entertainment, Sakhnini happened to the Founder CEO and led the company towards record results after its acquisition by Activision Blizzard.
Stanislav Vishnevskiy, the other co -founder of Discord, will remain in the company as director of Technology.
“I really want to work with Stan and the talented Discord team to expand our business, keeping us faithful to the main mission of the company and the special connection it has with the players communities,” said Sakhnini. “We are still in the early stages of the impact of video games on entertainment and culture, and Discord is in the perfect position to play a central role in that future.”
