
Panama City, Panama/The Ministry of Health (MINSA) this Sunday, a call to the population to strengthen biosafety measures due to the increase in cases of the influenza virus recorded in recent weeks.
Influenza, commonly known as flu, is an acute respiratory disease that manifests itself with symptoms such as Fever, cough, throat pain and nasal secretion. In children, it can cause additional complications such as otitis media, nausea and vomiting.
As reported by the health entity, the Typical duration of this disease is 3 to 7 days. However, infection with the influenza virus can be aggravated, causing serious complications such as viral pneumonia, exacerbation of pre -existing medical conditions, pneumonia bacterial, sinusitis and otitis media.
The institution indicated that epidemiological surveillance has allowed to identify the constant circulation of several respiratory viruses throughout the year, including Influenza A and B, parainfluenza, respiratory syncitial virus, coronavirusSARS-NO-2, adenovirus, metapneumovirus, bocavirus y rinovirus.
The identified influenza virus subtype most often has been the AH1N1PDM09as detailed by the health authority.
Preventive recommendations
Given the increase in influenza hospitalizations and providing an increase in this disease in the country, Minsa recommends the population:
- Constant handwashing with soap and water alcoholic gel
- Use of mask and go to the doctor in case of manifesting symptoms
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
- In self -duty
- Go timely to health facilities
Similarly, health authorities urged the population to keep the vaccination scheme updated, especially for groups with the highest risk of complications, such as pregnant women, young children, older adults and people with chronic diseases.
