The United States Navy lost a second combat plane in the aircraft carrier of USS Harry S. Truman in the Red Sea, a week after having lost another hunt in the same place, as reported on Tuesday (06.05.2025) local media.
It is not yet clear what happened, since the investigation is ongoing, but according to the CNN there was a failure in the detention mechanism when the hunt tried to land on the aircraft carrier, and the pilot and the weapons systems officer had to be ejected.
The occupants were rescued by a helicopter and both are alive, but suffered minor injuries, the chain said.
The combat plane was a F/A-18 Super Hornet, a hunt valued at more than 60 million dollars, according to the Navy.
On April 28, the Navy lost the same combat plane model by falling down the same aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman, during operations at the Red Sea.
-“The aircraft and the towing vehicle were lost byboard,” the Navy then specified, which also explained that a Marine “suffered a mild wound.”
