Ukraine accused Russia on Thursday of violating its own fire, stating that the Russian forces attacked hundreds of times along the front lines and threw guided bombs that killed and wounded civilians in several Ukrainian cities.
The tall three -day fire in Ukraine, unilaterally declared by the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin last month, entered into force at midnight on Wednesday, while Russia prepares to commemorate the anniversary of his victory day in World war II on Friday.
A Kremlin statement last month said that Putin ordered to suspend “all military actions” in Ukraine from midnight from May 8 until midnight from May 11 for “humanitarian considerations.”
The Russian State Agency TASS reported that the high fire began at midnight, local time, Wednesday (5 pm Miami time).
Three hours later, the Ukraine Air Force said that Russia had launched guided bombs on Sumy, in northern Ukraine, the Reuters news agency reported, adding that it could not independently verify the statements.
Kyiv rejected the truce in the short term when it was announced for the first time. The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, described Putin’s announcement as a “theatrical representation” and reiterated his country’s support to a previous proposal from the United States for a high 30 -day fire that Russia rejected.
The three -day period that Putin chose for Alto El Fuego coincides with the commemorations of Russia’s Day in World War II, including a traditional military parade scheduled for Friday, May 9.
The high profile event is expected to attend leaders from several countries that are friends with Russia, including Xi Jinping from China.
As in previous years, it is expected to be used by Putin and his government to disseminate propaganda, which falsely frames Moscow’s current aggression against Ukraine as a fight against a “Nazi” regime in Kyiv.
While Russia prepares to commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War II, Ukrainian drones attacked Moscow for the second consecutive night on Wednesday night.
The attacks forced the Russian authorities to temporarily stop air traffic in 13 airports: four in Moscow and nine further.
More drones flew this Wednesday, the mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, said that a drone headed to Moscow was demolished on Wednesday afternoon.
The closure of airports was potentially shameful for Moscow, since delegations of countries that have maintained a friendship with Russia were flying to attend the parade on Friday.
The president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the president of Vietnam, To Lam, and the leader of Belarús, Alexander Lukashenko, are among the 29 leaders in the guest list, according to the Russian presidential assistant Yuri Ushakov.
Ukraine previously said that “it cannot be responsible for what happens in the territory of the Russian Federation” due to war.
Zelensky said his country would not be “playing to create a pleasant atmosphere to allow Putin to leave the isolation on May 9.”
Although Russia has rejected the proposal of Alto El Fuego of the United States, the high unilateral fire around the celebration of Victory Day was the second short -term truce that Putin announced in less than a month.
In a surprise movement during Easter, the Russian leader announced that he instructed his troops to stop all military activity for about 30 hours. Ukraine accused Russia of raping the truce, although he did say that the fighting had slowed into some parts of the front lines.
