During the ceremony of Transfer of Pope Francis’s coffin to the San Pedro Basilicahe Camarlengo Kevin Farrell presided over a solemn prayer from the Santa Marta Chapel where he expressed the deep respect and pain of the Church for the Pope’s departure.
Accompanying the coffin, Farrell, who plays a key role in the administration of the vacancy, raised his prayer in the name of all present.
“Dear brothers and sisters, with deep pain, now we accompany the mortal remains of our Pope Francis to the Vatican Basilica, where he often exercised his ministry as bishop of the Church of Rome and pastor of the Universal Church,” Farrell prayer began, highlighting Francisco’s crucial role in the Catholic Church and his closeness with the faithful.
“By leaving this house now, we thank the Lord for the innumerable gifts that he granted to the Christian people through his servant, Pope Francis. We ask that, in his mercy and goodness, he gives the deceased Pope an eternal home in the kingdom of heaven, and that he comforts the papal family, to the church of Rome and the faithful of all the world,” The Camarlengo continued, asking for comfort for all who cry the loss of the Pope.
With words full of faith and hope, Farrell expressed his desire that Pope Francis was received in the “Light and perpetual peace”in reference to the eternal rest to which the pontiff aspired.
“Look, Lord, with goodness the life and works of your servant, our Pope Francis. Acogle in the abode of life and perpetual peace, and grant that your faithful people fervently follow his steps, giving testimony of the Gospel of Jesus”the camarlengo added.
Prayer culminated in an invocation to Christ: “Who lives and reigns for ever and ever”.
After prayer, the open coffin of papa Franciscotaken by shoulders by SEDIARY PONTIFICIES and escorted by the Swiss Guardhe was transferred to the San Pedro Basilica. The procession toured the Santa Marta Squarethe Roman protomartyrs squareand crossed the Arc of bellsfinally reaching the San Pedro Squarewhere he was received with a deep respect for those present.
The coffin, preceded by the Cardinals And followed by those who were closer to the Pontiff, including their Secretaries y Thesistantsit was placed in front of the Confession altarbefore him Bernini Baldaquino. This symbolic place is considered one of the most important within the Vatican Basilica.
Outside, hundreds of international media gathered in the ‘Arm of Carlomagno’the terrace on the colonnade of San Pedro, while the faithful aligned near the square, hoping to pay their last goodbye to Pope Francis from the 11:00 Time Local (9:00 GMT).
Within the basilica, bishops and cardinals, accompanied by the Vatican personnel, prepared to listen to the word liturgywhich would be chaired by the cardenal camarlengowho would continue with the funeral acts of the Pope.
