A Judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil has issued this Thursday the “immediate” income in prison of former president Fernando Collor de Mello (1990-1992), sentenced to eight years and ten months in jail for corruption, according to official sources.
Judge Alexandre de Moraes has rejected the last resort of the former senator and has decreed the immediate start of the sentence execution imposed in May 2023as indicated by the Supreme Court in a note.
Mello Collor was sentenced by the highest judicial instance of the country for Passive corruption and money launderingbut the sentence was never fulfilled due to slopes appeals.
However, De Moraes has filed the last resort of the ex -president for considering it “merely dilatory”with which, according to the judge, he sought to avoid the definitive outcome of the case.

Mello Collor was declared guilty for participating in a corruption scheme in the company BR Distribuidora, ex -subsidiary of Petrobras.

Mello Collor ruled Brazil between 1990 and 1992when he resigned before a political trial for corruption, of which he was later acquitted. Between 2007 and 2023, he occupied a seat in the Senate and in 2022 he failed in his candidacy for governor of Alagoas.
