The Ukrainian army denied this Saturday (26.04.2025) the statements of the Russian General Staff, according to which Russia regained control of the Russian region of Kursk, and assured that their troops continue to fight in this border area, where Ukraine launched an offensive in August 2024.
“The statements of the enemy leaders about the ‘defeat’ of the Ukrainian troops are nothing more than propaganda tricks,” said the Ukrainian General Staff in a statement.
“The operational situation is difficult, but our units continue to maintain their positions,” he added. The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army Valeri Guerásimov said shortly before his soldiers had recovered Kursk, partially controlled by the Ukrainian troops.
“Today, the last city in the territory of the Kursk region, the village of Gornal, was released from the Ukrainian units,” Guerásimov said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “The adventure of the kyiv regime failed completely,” said Putin, in a sequence broadcast on Russian state television.
“The soldiers and officers of the North Korean army who fought alongside the Russian military demonstrated great professionalism, resistance, value and heroism when repelling the Ukrainian invasion,” Guerásimov told Putin.
The Ukrainian soldiers launched an offensive in Kursk in August 2024, in response to which Moscow launched in Ukraine in February 2022, taking by surprise the Russian troops and seizing more than 1,000 square kilometers.
