Alpine finally made the decision to displace Jack Doohan as the titular pilot of the team and ascend to Franco Colapinto from the role of a reserve pilot, a place that the Australian will now occupy, officially at least at least for the next five major awards.
The Estone team came to this conclusion after a disappointing start of the season by Doohan for his first campaign as a starting pilot in the highest category.
Throughout the six major awards played in 2025, Doohan had an average deficit in 0S367 classification with respect to Gasly, while a race never finished ahead of the French, except when it was disqualified in China.
Doohan started the season with an abandonment in the first round in the rain in the Australian Grand Prix, which was followed by an appointment in China in which he received four points of punishment in his license for different incidents in the Sprint race and in the Grand Prix. Then he had a strong accident on Friday of the Japan Grand Prix by bending in the first Suzuka curve with the open DRs.

Bahrain, the scenario where the preseason was played in February, was where Alpine so far had his best weekend of the year, since Gasly qualified fifth and arrived seventh, but Doohan could not live up to his partner: it was 11th on Saturday and then fought to enter the points on Sunday, but lost ground in the final part of the race until finishing 14th.
On the weekends of Saudi Arabia and Miami became disappointing again for the 22 -year -old pilot, since he avoided little last in Yeda and last Sunday he left in the first round after colliding with the Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson.
Mick Doohan, winner of five world motorcycling championships, was a usual presence in the Formula 1 paddock this year to support his son and clearly was not happy with Alpine’s decision to leave aside the 22 -year -old pilot.
Although he still did not make public statements after the decision of the rise of Colapinto to take the place of his son Jack, Mick Doohan pronounced on his Instagram account, and in a somewhat curious way.
The legend of the motorcycles published two stories where you can see the results of Gasly and Jack Doohan so far in the season, without adding anything more than the song ‘Tell Em’ of squirl beats. Possibly he wanted to point out that the results of the French have not been spectacular so far in the year, although reality indicates that he was always ahead of his teammate.
