Lima, May 3 (EFE) .- An ambush of alleged illegal miners against workers of the Araracoto Mining Camp, located in the La Libertad region, in northern Peru, has left eight injured, including two police officers, who have been evacuated by helicopter, according to local media.

The National Police of Peru reported that the workers and police officers were ambushed in their vehicles they entered the Caravelí Minera processing plant, located in the populated center of Jucusbamba, in the Tayabamba district.

Following the confrontation with firearms, six of the workers and two police officers were injured by diverse gravity, which is why their transfer to centers of Tayabamba and the High complexity hospital in Trujillo was arranged.

“We have been informed of this situation, so immediate actions have been arranged to attend to the injured of this confrontation caused among a of criminals that tried to take a mining camp in the Tayabamba district,” said the Regional Health Manager, Aníbal Morillo, to the Andina State Agency.

Six of the eight injured were transferred by helicopter to the Hospital de Trujillo, the capital of the region.

The facts were recorded in a district that belongs to the of Pataz, declared in emergency for the acts of violence unleashed by illegal mining in its jurisdiction. EFE
