The Chinese port of Guangzhou has initiated a direct sea route to the Peruvian port of Chancay, with the aim of reducing logistics expenses and strengthening trade with Latin America in a context of commercial tensions with the United States, according to reports CCTV.
The direct route to Peru takes approximately 30 days, offering a 20% reduction in logistics costs. This new service will also expedite the connections between the port of Guangzhou Nansha and the ports of the west coast of Latin America, such as Manzanillo in Mexico and San Antonio in Chile.
According to CCTV, the high quality fruits and seafood of the Pacific coast, along with the red wine of the Andes, will arrive more quickly to China.
The first phase of the port of Chancay, built by COSCO with an investment of 1.3 billion dollars, was inaugurated in November by the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, and the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, during the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) held in Lima.
Characterized as a deep water port with 15 bingers, XI described it as the beginning of a “Maritime Silm Route of the 21st century”, in line with the Chinese initiative “Belt and Road”.
New investments are expected in the port of Chancay, since Beijing and Lima collaborate to establish it as a key maritime transport center between Asia and South America.
