A of magnitude 4.5 was recorded at dawn on Wednesday, April 23 at 05:24. Its was located 21 kilometers east of Máncora, in the of Talara, Piura region, the National Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (PGI) reported.

The telluric movement, identified with the IGP/Censis/RS code 2025-0282, had a depth of 18 kilometers. The coordinates of the epicenter were -4.05 latitude and -80.86 in length.

According to the preliminary report of the PGI, the reached an intensity III on the Mercalli scale in the city of Máncora, which implies a mild perception of the movement by the population without causing material damage.

So far, local authorities have not reported affectations or emergencies derived from the earthquake. However, the PGI reminds the population of the importance of staying informed through channels and having prepared an emergency backpack against any eventuality.

This seismic event is part of the constant tectonic activity on the , a highly seismic area due to the meeting of the Nazca plate with the South American plaque.

The National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) recommends that in case of earthquake calm and avoid panic. It is also necessary to prepare a evacuation plan, verify the exit routes and always have the emergency backpack.

Peru is located in the area called the Pacific Fire belt, where approximately 85 % of the seismic activity is recorded.
