The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United States Embassy in Peru today announced the beginning of a commemorative year and countdown to the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between the two countries, whose official anniversary will be held on May 2, 2026.
Through a joint statement, it is emphasized that on May 2, 1826, Peru and the United States of America began A bilateral relationship based on respect, cooperation and friendship, as documented by the letter signed by US President John Quincy Adams.
This first official record marked the beginning of a relationship that, almost two centuries later, continues to strengthen strategically.
“Throughout these 200 years, we have forged broad and integral cooperation in areas such as defense, security, space exploration, strengthening trade and reciprocal investments; as well as in science and technology, public health, tourism in both directions and numerous academic and cultural exchanges”, Indicates the statement.
It is emphasized that this relationship is reflected even in emblematic spaces such as Washington Square and Kennedy Park in Lima; as well as Yma Sumac street in Los Angeles and Peru Boulevard in New Jersey.
Therefore, during the celebrations that will be held this year, both in Peru and in the United States of America, it will stand out “Everything that unites us as friends.”
