Violence in the interoceanic pathway does not give truce. This Tuesday, May 6, 2025, a woman lost her life after receiving a shot during the assault on an interprovincial bus of the Iberia company, in the region Mother of God. The incident occurred around 3:00 am in the area known as Palmares.
Nicknamed “Planchitas” by his teammates, Freddy Ávalos had started working in that workshop just two weeks ago.
Five armed criminals, who simulated being passengers suddenly rose and began to threaten the occupants, demanding money, jewelry and other valuables.
According to the witnesses, the assailants were distributed between the two floors of the bus while the driver chose not to stop the march.
During the robbery, a woman of approximately 50 years who occupied seat number 62 tried to resist the robbery and struggled with one of the hampons. In the midst of the confrontation, one of the criminals shot and the bullet hit the victim. Although the driver tried to urgently transfer a nearby health center, his death was confirmed shortly after.
The incident was denounced at the Mazuco police station, where the corresponding investigations began. So far, those responsible have not been identified, who managed to flee after committing the crime.
The constant assaults on the interoceanic route, especially in the section that Cusco joins with Madre de Dios, have generated growing concern among local travelers and inhabitants.
In recent years, the road has been the scene of numerous criminal acts, many of them related to organized crime and illegal mining that predominates in sectors such as La Pampa.
The presence of criminal organizations operating in this area has turned the interoceanic route into a high -risk corridor, where armed assaults – some even with war armament – have become recurring.
