Lima, May 7 (EFE) .- The Prosecutor’s Office filed a constitutional complaint against the minister of Education of Peru, Morgan Quero, for inciting discrimination, in its aggravated modality, to the detriment of the protesters of the anti-government protests held between December 202 and early 2023, the Public Ministry reported on Wednesday.
In a statement shared in its Social Network X, the Prosecutor’s Office, through the area of illicit enrichment and constitutional complaints, filed the complaint against Quero before Congress for the crime against humanity, in its qualification of incitement to discrimination.
Constitutional denunciations are a special procedure that applies to senior state officials and who must receive green light from the Congress so that the Chamber recommends accusing the investigated person.
In case of receiving the approval of the Legislative, the Prosecutor’s Office can proceed to accuse the investigated, and if it is rejected, interrupts the process.
Quero was denounced because, at the end of an official activity, he made a statement to a media that included an expression that “promotes and legitimizes” the exclusion and devaluation of the aggrieved, as explained by the Prosecutor’s Office.
A day after International human Rights Day, commemorated on December 10, 2024, a journalist asked Quero about why the Executive had not spoken over the 49 deaths in the protests that exploded after the dismissal of former president Pedro Castillo and the Assumption of Dina Boluarte in December 2022.
However, the Minister of Education replied that “human rights are for people, not for rats.”
The video with the Minister’s statement was broadly disseminated on social networks and generated numerous criticisms and renunciation requests.
Shortly after, Quero maintained a telephone interview with Channel N to clarify “the unfortunate circumstance” fruit of his statement, and initially said that “his words had been misrepresented”.
The minister added that he assumed that the reporter had asked her about the violation of minors and the debate on the death penalty for pedophiles.
After that clarification, Quero regretted the pain of the victims and families that were affected by the protests.
The head of Education, one of the closest to the president Dina Boluarte, already starred in a controversy last year by calling as “cultural practice” the violations suffered between schools from Awajún communities, of the Peruvian Amazon. EFE
