Alfonso López Chau officially renounces the Rector of the UNI to start his campaign with now Nation | Policy

According to the letter written by López Chau himself, his decision is intended to convey a clear message of commitment to the country. “After reflecting, and even with the approval of the University Council, I have reached the conviction that it is better to give a clear and signature signal, renouncing any and relationship, even as a professor at my dear National University of Engineering,” the candidate wrote.

Likewise, he confirmed his candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic and the beginning of his presidential campaign for the 2026 elections. “Without the obligations imposed by the University, I will be able to travel to all the districts, provinces and regions of Peru for the active listening that culminates in decisions and agreements for action,” he said.

First resignation of Alfonso López Chau

On April 10 of this year, López Chau resigned from the Rector of the UNI through Office No. 311-ALCH-RECT/UNI-2025, in which he thanked all the members of the university community, teachers, and workers. This resolution caused the University Council to approve a license without enjoyment for 13 months, however, it ended up without effect with the recent letter issued by the presidential candidate, with which it made it clear that it resigned from any link with the National University of Engineering.
