In this Diocese Prevost, he served as a parish vicar of the Cathedral and Chancellor of the Territorial Prelature. During his time in Peru, Prevost not only dedicated himself to evangelization, but also played a crucial role in the formation of new priests and in the administration of the diocese.
The Diocese of Chulucanas (in Latin: dioeseis chulucanensis) is an ecclesiastical constituency of the Catholic Church in Peru that has jurisdiction in three provinces of Piura: Ayabaca, Huancabamba and Morropón where there is a population of a Catholic majority.
The main headquarters of the Diocese is located in the city of Chulucanas, where the cathedral of the Sagrada Familia is located and is in charge of 23 parishes, a sanctuary Our Lady of the Pilar, in Ayabaca, where the captive man of Ayabaca is venerated.
After a brief return to the United States, where he worked as a vocational director and missions for the Augustinian province of Chicago, Prevost returned to Peru in 1988.
During the next decade, he directed the Augustinian Seminar in Trujillo and taught Canon Law at the Diocesan Seminary. His deep knowledge of the region and his domain of Spanish, in addition to other languages, allowed him to establish a significant connection with the local community.
Prevost, 69, born in the United States, but naturalized Peruvian since 2015 when he enrolled before the RENIEC and has current DNI registered in Chiclayo, a city where he exercised as bishop.
His link with Peru is so narrow that he was part of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference until 2023 and was nationalized to meet the requirements of the concordat between the Holy See and the Peruvian State.
