Barcelona — They had turned almost six minutes from the discount, when Lamine Yamal entered the area with the ball in front of him. He just had to beat the goalkeeper.
The young prodigy was pressed by a defender, but seemed in a great position to horant the network.
Instead of scoring the goal that would probably take to its first final of the Champions League in a decade, Yamal barely outlined a weak shot with the left foot, direct to the hands of Inter Milan’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer.
The 17 -year -old Spanish striker had another outstanding performance on Tuesday, when generating opportunities and showing himself as a constant threat. But this was not enough to take the Catalan club to the duel for the title.
The opportunity lost by Yamal at the end of regular time was expensive. He left the score equalized 3-3 before Inter was imposed 4-3 in extra time to advance to the final with a 7-6 global.
Yamal had scored an incredible goal in the first leg in Barcelona, but could not find the network this time to help Barça during the return in San Siro.
Another shot with the left booty in extra time seemed promising, but Sommer diverted it with the fingertips to preserve the 4-3 advantage.
“What stop will I remember?” Sommer said, the most valuable player in the game. “The last one on Lamine Yamal. He is a great player and fortunately did not enter. Many teams would have surrendered after losing 3-2, but we did not do it and managed to overcome.”
Sommer had already lavished some interventions to stop Yamal auctions during the game, including a save with one hand and a jump before a long distance shot of the young striker at 77 with the score 2-2.
Yamal’s lost opportunity at the end of regular time came only minutes after Inter had matched with a goal from Francesco Acerbi. Raphinha had put Barcelona ahead at 87 minutes of another exciting game between these clubs.
Yamal seemed incredulous after he couldn’t beat Sommer. After the referee whistled the end of the ordinary time, he briefly lifted his shirt to cover his face.
A trip to the final would have added an achievement to the sensational beginning of Yamal’s career, both with Barcelona and with the selection of Spain, where he has been establishing records and gaining praise around the world of football.
Barcelona tried to reach the final for the first time since he won his fifth title of the Champions League in 2015.
