FRISCO, Texas – A few weeks after Jerry Jones insinuated a “substantial exchange”, the cowboys have completed one, ending an exchange to acquire the open receiver of the Pittsburgh Steelers, George Pickens, along with a selection of sixth round of the 2027 Draft, in exchange for a third round of the Draft 2026 and one of the fifth round of the Draft 2027.
Pickens, 24, will now join Ceedee Lamb, the partner that the cowboys have been looking for Lamb during this low season. And there is a potential for them to spend a lot of time together, since Pickens is about to enter his fourth season at the NFL.
After being selected by the Steelers in the second round of the NFL 2022 Draft, Pickens led Pittsburgh in yards by reception in 2023 and 2024. In 14 games last season, he caught 59 passes for 900 yards and three touchdowns. Three games were lost due to an injury to the Corva’s tendon at the end of the season, but returned on time for the playoffs, where he added five receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown in the defeat of Pittsburgh 28-14 in the Commodines Round against the Ravens.
The 2023 season in Pittsburgh was the best of Pickens in the NFL to date, with 1,140 yards per reception in 63 trapped and five touchdowns, all maximum in their career. He achieved this production with three different field marshals: Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Mitchell Trubisky.
In his rookie season in 2022, he finished second in yards for the reception of the team, only behind Duantae Johnson, but it was still more than productive with 801 yards in 52 receptions and four touchdowns.
Before starting its third and last university season in Georgia, Pickens suffered a tear of anterior cross ligament (ACL) in March 2021 during a spring practice of the Bulldogs. He returned to the last four games of the season, when Georgia won his first national championship since 1980, highlighting with a spectacular reception of 52 yards throwing himself in the match for the national title against Alabama.
In the annual meetings of the League in March, the COO and co -owner of the Cowboys, Stephen Jones, made it very clear that Dallas was looking to improve in the open receiver position.
“We are still open to look for a really explosive number that can improve,” Jones said. “But as I said, I like our room (receptors) and I certainly like the players we currently have.”
With the incorporation of pickens, the cowboys now have the in -depth explosive receiver that they have been looking for from the beginning.
