What is a Nammi? Nammi could be a design store, the character of a Japanese animation series, a sweet, “Paloma Nammi”, the “Motonammi”, anyway. But the reality is that NAMMI is the Dongfeng electric cars submarket, born from the ex-alianza of Dongfeng with Renault called EGT, oriented to urban electric cars (derived from the Electric Renault Kwid).
This, specifically, is the Candy 001 And if not for some important “Peros”, it is one of the most striking cars that has had to see with the Dongfeng badge on the front, mainly because of its good management, original design, correct autonomy and good price/equipment ratio.
NAMMI 001: Dimensions and Design
- Largo: 4.020 mm
- Ancho: 1.810 mm
- Alto: 1.570 mm
- Axis distance: 2.660 mm
- Trunk: 326 liters
Nammi design is very special and plays with some very fashionable codes in this segment. And what is this segment? In China, compact electric cars are being very popular that also have friendly and softened design traits. For example we have Ora 03 and also Jac E30X. We have also seen smaller cars with similar features, such as those of the Geely Geome line. Only Byd took a different path with Dolphin Mini and Dolphin, in more hooded and futuristic ways.
This Nammi also presents a soft, but original design. For example, its silhouette is rather regular, with defined volumes and some straight lines that give moderation. The front bulbs are rounded but not circular, rather of two levels, with a light firm that surrounds them. The rear lights are more circular and attract attention for their 3D housings. Other details are its black applications that give continuity, such as the pillar to which the windshield transforms into a large visor (Suzuki Swift style) or the cut in the C pillar that gives the illusion of floating ceiling and the decoration of the portal that reminds of the Volvo C30. They finish, white moldings and 17 “original design tires.
In size, it is very similar to Jac Ignite E30X, but it exceeds it in a trunk capacity. The Ora is a more expensive car and is larger, but also loses in the load capacity. This makes the Nammi have a very well used space and much closer to that of a traditional hatchback of segment B. What is, is that the rear seats are not divisible, so, if you need to gain space, unfortunately you will have to sacrifice the rear seats in its entirety, folding the backing of the entire bench.
Nammi 001: interior
Sitting inside the NAMMI 001 we receive an interior with a much more careful quality appreciation than what we usually see in cars of this size. Bitono polymers with texture, the padding of the doors and of the entire board or floating support, as well as some of the aluminum color buttons and the leather huinchas that simulate the straps of a bag (to the Citroën) lead us to a space that tries to reconcile the modern with the warm.
The handling position is comfortable, in the sense that we have good position and that the steering wheel is more compact. The commands it brings are not the easiest to use and some of their functions are necessary. The digital cluster is compact, easy to read and is anchored to the column, which means that we can always look inside the flyer’s openings. The seats, yes, are of poor quality. This shows when grabbing the cushions and side supports, which give a feeling of a very soft foam and a synthetic straight leather.
With respect to the slide spaces we have a huge tray under the wireless charger, a large cubicle under the support and other rarity: the glove compartment was replaced by a drawer.
We go to the back squares and the space is correct and even, a little more generous in the head than in some conventional hatchbacks and also on the ground. A central support is missing, but it has belts in all places.
Let’s talk about the multimedia system, which comes on a floating screen of 12.8 “and without any physical button or knob. Everything must be operated directly from the interface, but Nammi placed some direct accesses in the lower bar, next to the climate control commands, so that everything is more or less easy to find.
However, the most striking of this car is the interface, which is very playful but I do not know if it catalogs it as “feminine” (please, with a view) or a bit “child”. The wallpaper is a living room with a kitten that speaks sitting in an armchair. There is a music team, a watch and a wall poster, elements that you can configure. Everything is in pastel tones and if you select some elements, they will take you to other menu; If you press the headdress, it will turn on the radio.
-You cannot remove this or eliminate, so if you do not like kittens or pastel colors, it is something you will have to reconcile.
This interface also has direct access to group or thematic preconfigurations to activate several functions at the same time (for example, a rain mode, a pet mode, etc.) and if that were not enough, you can customize some sounds with which you can “greet” abroad. Of course, it also has Apple Carplay and Android Auto Wireless, 360 ° camera and a functional refrigerated wireless charger.
NAMMI 001: Security
One of the big problems that NAMMI has is that it only has two airbags, a really inexplicable situation considering its price and the amount of driving assists it has. It is like saying “let’s take your belts, but let’s put an autonomous evasive and braking address”; It is not the logical order of priorities in security configuration in any car, even more at these price levels.
So, you are warned. Only two airbags and the rest of the classic security devices but with many ADAS, such as:
- Front collision assistant
- Alerta maintenance de Carril
- Lane tracking assistant
- High Light Assistant
- Traffic signals recognition
- Adaptive cruise control
- Parking assistant
NAMMI 001: Motor Train
94 HP and 160 NM of Torque has this NAMMI 001. It is a power quite close to what we could find in a average segment B hatchback (at least in the entry versions) with the proviso that being an electric model, it has more torque. We are not going to say that in Sport mode it is transformed into a swift sport or a hot-jatch, but having 160 nm from the first moment that the accelerator is kicking, gives you an energetic and sustained sensation. Of course, since there are only 160 nm, if you try to repeat the exercise in speed (recoveries), the sensation will not be the same.
NAMMI 001 has three management modes and three energy recovery modes. The ECO mode and the most restrictive regeneration mode are not so “rigid” in the sense that the engine response is very retained. That translates into that they become pleasant and “malleable” for urban use and if you need a little less “restriction”, it is enough to step on the accelerator for the NAMMI to help you get a car from above.
There are two battery sizes, one of XX KWH and this, “long -range” with 42.3 kWh, good for 345 kilometers in WLTP cycle. I live in Puente Alto and I have to be making long transfers to the east area of Santiago, I have walked in the car all week and I still have 26% of the battery. Of course, if it had included some exit to more peripheral areas (San Bernardo or Colina), I would surely be at the time of loading, but it is an index that tells you that you could use the car from Monday to Friday without problem and even more days if you only move in the city and you do not have to cross Santiago completely: it is a city car and was designed as such KWH/100 kilometers. If you need to load it, the car supports loads of up to 87 kW, so you find a more power charger than those of 50 kW, you will wait less than the rest, at least 30 minutes if you get to plug with 10%.
Its handling is very similar to other segment B cars, correct, but perhaps less refined. It is not an Opel Corsa and it is not a Seat Ibiza. On the rear axle we find a semi-rigid axis (more rigid than “semi”) that is the one that brings more dryness in the route tennis and some minor vibrations. The battery of course helps you achieve poise and balance, in the sense that the car does not fit more than normal and does not lean laterally as in an extremely soft car.
Talking more about Nammi would be to invent, but the one that is not striking does not mean that it is bad, on the contrary, it feels mature and much more pleasant and resolved than any other car that has led with the Dongfeng badge. City cars do not usually have very outstanding dynamic features, even more so in modern times where all cars are very similar. However, I cannot stop talking about the direction, which although it has a very synthetic sensation (without touch), it has a demultiplication that I liked enough; When you turn with the steering wheel, the car looks for stability, therefore it will not deliver a nervous or more reactive characteristic. However, the more you turn the steering wheel, the direction will begin to tighten more so you can turn better in a parking lot or in an U turn. It is not a linear sensation, but it is very successful for this car and it seems somewhat rescued to comment.
NAMMI 001: Conclusions
Nammi 001, as a product, is a great car. Even one could imagine it with a hybrid engine and much more accessible value, for the well -achieved of its size, its equipment and handling.
Unfortunately, the choice to configure it only with two airbags is questionable, with only one long bank in the rear seat and also, not to have physical knobs for the basic functions of the multimedia system. We could even ignore the “kittens” if the car had those covered items. And it is a shame, because everything else is very good, from its inner space to its design. It combines very well the practical with the playful and everything, at a fairly reasonable price of between 21 and 25 million pesos (reasonable, thinking of electrical compact cars).
It is by far, one of Dongfeng’s best developed models and could be a great classmate of urban routes, where you would not need to load it more than once a week to move.
