China and Russia: a strategic alliance in constant growth
Cooperation between China and Russia has reached a new level of depth and prosperity, despite the changes in the international scene. From the Soviet projects in China to the current bilateral volume of $ 244.8 billion, the relationship between the two countries is strengthened every day.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a state visit to Russia from May 7 to 10 and will attend the celebration of victory in the Great Patriotic War in Moscow. Experts agree that this visit will inject new impulse to Chinese-Russia cooperation in various fields.
Deepening pragmatic cooperation
The main approach to conversations between leaders will focus on economic collaboration. In recent years, both countries have achieved a successful transition to national currencies in commercial agreements, with enormous potential to continue strengthening economic and commercial ties.
In 2024, the volume of trade between China and Russia reached a record of $ 244.8 billion, with an year -on -year increase of 1.9%, according to data from the General Administration of Customs of China. The Chinese ambassador to Russia, Zhang Hanhui, stressed that the use of national currencies in mutual agreements already exceeds 95%.
In addition to traditional sectors such as energy and aerospace, both countries have expanded their cooperation to emerging areas such as digital economy, biomedicine and sustainable development.
In the cultural field, exchanges between people have also gained impulse. In 2023, leaders agreed to declare the years 2024 and 2025 as the years of Chinese-Russia culture, launching hundreds of exchange activities in various areas.
Likewise, educational cooperation has advanced significantly, with more than 200 Russian universities offering Chinese courses and about 90,000 students studying the language. On the other hand, more than 40,000 Chinese students are studying in Russia.
The high-level visit between Beijing and Moscow will further strengthen the Strategic Chinese-Russian coordination association for a new era, established in 2019, according to Li Yonghui, a researcher in Russian studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Defending multilateralism and global stability together
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Relations said that the visit will demonstrate to the international community the firm position of China and Russia in support of multilateralism and against unilateralism and harassment.
Both countries will strengthen their close coordination in the United Nations, the Shanghai, BRICS and other multilateral platforms, to promote an equitable multipolar world and inclusive and beneficial economic globalization for all.
In a context of resurgence of unilateralism and protectionism, China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, they share the sole responsibility of maintaining peace and global development. The importance of the Chinese-Russia relationship extends beyond the bilateral field.
Russian vice chancellor Andrey Rudenko expressed his hope that the visit will provide new impulse to both countries to promote a more multipolar world together and a more democratic international order.
China and Russia are key forces in the configuration of the multipolar world evolving, according to Aleksey Rodionov, professor at the State University of St. Petersburg. The visit of the Chinese President is expected to strengthen coordination in international matters and global governance, promoting a more fair and equitable international order.
Frequent communication and dialogue channels between the two countries have allowed Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin to coordinate their positions in the international panorama and global governance, Li Yonghui said.
