Tripoli, May 8 (EFE) .- The Delegation of the European Union (EU) and the diplomatic missions of the Member States in Libya demanded on Thursday to open an “urgent and independent” investigation about the disappearance of Libyan deputy Ibrahim Darsi, who appeared detained and tortured in a video, whose veracity is being analyzed.
In a statement, they expressed their “deep concern and dismay” to the disseminated images and asked the Libya authorities to investigate the disappearance of the deputy in May 2024, after attending a military parade of the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Marshal Jalifa Haftar, in Benghazi.
“While we wait for the results of the technical evaluations to verify the authenticity of the video, we call all the relevant authorities to investigate this case urgently and independently,” they warned in the statement.
The United Nations support mission in Libya (UNSMIL) last tuesday requested an “independent and exhaustive” investigation about the veracity of the video released on Monday, since some voices warned that it could be a falsification elaborated by artificial intelligence.
UN digital experts have mobilized to evaluate the authenticity of the video, according to a statement released by the mission.
-The Human Rights Watch organization declared the channel to Ahrar TV that the filtered images are “shocking” and also demanded a “transparent” analysis by the Libyan authorities.
The deputy’s environment also reacted, as the notables of the tribe to Darsa in Benghazi, to which he belongs to Darsi, met last Tuesday with representatives of the Marshal Haftar, and affirmed that “the video is false and was generated with artificial intelligence to incite social division.”
The tribe gave a period of three days to the Libyan Prime Minister of the East Government, Osama Hammad, clarify the status of the deputy.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for the International Criminal Court (ICC), FADI to Abdullah, told the channel to Ahrar that “he cannot comment on the filtered videos of the deputy due to the confidentiality of the investigations.”
So far, the status of the deputy is unknown, whose kidnapping occurred in the eastern zone under the control of the Marshal forces. EFE
