The General Council of the Local Electoral Public Organization (OPLE) of Veracruz approved the replacement of the candidacy for the municipal presidency of Coxquihui, after the murder of Morena’s flag bearer, Germán Anuar Valencia.
In an urgent session, the General Council endorsed the nomination of Ramón Valencia Pérez as the new mayor candidate for the coalition “Together we continue to make history in Veracruz.”
The replacement was requested after the murder of Germán Anuar Valencia, who was shot dead on April 29 during the start of his campaign in the Arenales community.
With the approval of the OPLE, Ramón Valencia will be able to perform campaign acts until May 28, when the proselytizing activities conclude.
The electoral agency confirmed that the new candidate meets the eligibility requirements and the affirmative actions, being also an indigenous person and the same gender as the deceased applicant.
“Once the new application is received and verified compliance with the eligibility and affirmative actions requirements, the registration is appropriate for the death of the candidacy for the position of municipal presidency that owns the municipality of Coxquihui, by the political party Morena member of the coalition we continue to make history in Veracruz,” says the approved agreement.
In the same session, the OPLE also approved substitutions for resignation of candidacies to councilors in the 212 municipalities of the State, corresponding to the applications of the National Action, Institutional Revolutionary and Citizen Movement parties, with a cut on April 28, 2025.
Regarding the investigation of the homicide of Germán Anuar Valencia, Governor Norma Rocío Nahle García declared that there is a recording of the face of the alleged responsible and that the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) already has identified the person indicated as the author of the attack.
