Frank Leboeuf says ‘top’ £55m star was the only player who impressed him in Man City 1-0 Wolves

Manchester City took a step closer to achieving their goal on night with their win over Wolves.

Pep Guardiola’s men secured a 1-0 win over the Midlands club courtesy of a Kevin De Bruyne goal and the moved City into third spot in the Premier League. This has now given the Manchester club a very chance of achieving their goal of qualifying for the League next .

That is not what was expected from Man City at the start of the season off the back of a run of winning four Premier League titles in a row but the campaign can still be salvaged ahead of a huge summer for the Manchester club.

City have struggled against many teams this season and Wolves were no different. Several stars did not have their best in a sky blue shirt and only one impressed ESPN FC pundit Frank Leboeuf.

Jeremy Doku impresses Frank LeBoeuf with Wolves display

Jeremy Doku’s Man City career has been a mixed bag ever since his £55.5m move to the Etihad Stadium from Rennes the summer of 2023.

The winger has shown moments of brilliance, but there has been a lack of consistency. Ian Wright believes Doku needs to improve his left foot ahead of the new season, however, Man City fans have been more impressed with the winger in recent weeks.

Against Wolves, Doku started his Premier League game since Leicester City on April 2 and the Belgian star was the only player who impressed LeBoeuf.

“They were good in the first half and it’s only because of a good Doku,” LeBoeuf said on ESPN FC. “Again, I always put that guy on top of everybody because that guy creates something.

“He creates the danger, changes the pace of the game, tries to overtake his opponent, and at least tries to do something to unbalance the defence. The others (Man City players), they go around and around, and again, they (Man City) can be happy.”

Doku was not the only man LeBoeuf commented on as the World Cup winner believes Guardiola needs to ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Guardiola plans to take a break from once his Man City contract expires in 2027 and therefore, this summer is a huge one for the Spaniard’s potential stint at the Manchester club.

Leboeuf has been critical of Guardiola in the past and is one of many people who think the legendary needs to adapt to the modern game and adjust his possession-based style to be quicker and more .

The ESPN pundit found Man City boring to watch against Wolves and stated in the aftermath that Guardiola’s style belongs in the past.

“There is more frustration you receive (watching Man City). You know the talent of the players, you know they are capable of doing something else and I really think that Pep has to evolve and next be prepared to present and offer something else to his fans and to us,” the former Chelsea star said.

“I don’t think they will achieve anything if they carry on like that. That football is part of the past, he has to evolve and show us something else.”
