The powerful mining company, which exploits the Peruvian gold deposit attacked by criminals, confirmed the murder of 13 workers who had been kidnapped a week ago and were found dead this Sunday.
In a statement, Powerful lamented the death of the 13 people who were “cruelly killed by criminals allied to illegal mining.”
“We express our solidarity with the families of the victims, sharing their pain and weighing for such terrible loss,” he added.
The mining company complained that, in total, 39 miners and workers have been killed by the criminal gangs that have taken Pataz control, “turned into a territory without law, in which violence champion with impunity.”
The company made an urgent call to the government so that it rethinks its strategy to face crime and achieve the capture of criminals operating in Pataz.
However, he warned that it will not be possible to defeat crime if the police still do not enter illegal mouths, where they are guided and from where the criminal gangs act.
He also denounced that the location of these points is fully identified and georeferenced.
He also indicated that he corresponds “greater responsibility” to the General Directorate of Mining Formalization of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, because “still does not address the exclusion requests” presented by the company to withdraw from their concessions the informal and illegal miners that continue to operate without any restriction.
In the same vein, he pointed to Congress for the repeated extensions of the Integral Mining Formalization Registry (Reinfo) that have served as a “protective mantle” so that informal or illegal miners continue to develop their activities with impunity as part of a process that has proven to be “a total failure.”
“Faced with this destructive spiral, it is imperative that the government, private companies and civil society join efforts in order to face it and defeat it before it is too late,” he said in the statement shared on social networks.
In the same province of Pataz, an ambush of alleged illegal miners against workers of the Araracoto Mining Camp, on Saturday, left eight injured, including two police officers, who were evacuated by helicopter.
The National Police of Peru reported that workers and agents were ambushed in their vehicles when they entered the processor plant of the Caravelí Minera, located in the town center of Jucusbamba, in the Tayabamba district.
