Tuxpan, Michoacán, May 6, 2025.- The forestry of the State of Michoacán (Cofom) deployed three brigades to attend a forest in the of Tuxpan. According to preliminary information, another burn point was also detected and extinguished in the vicinity of the Santiago ejido, about 200 meters from the incident.

Despite the deployment of and technical resources, remain active in several regions of the State. Currently, more than 160 brigades fight three fires located in the municipalities of Cotija, Maravatío and the aforementioned Tuxpan. Elements of the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp), Civil Protection and Volunteers also participate in the .

The COFOM has reported that in the hours they managed to extinguish five fires in Senguio, Morelia, Nahuatzen, Uruapan and Paracho, indicating that the emergency is far from being under control. The accumulated number of accidents so far this amounts to 532, most with effects in low vegetation areas, such as grasslands, shrubs and leaf litter.

The institution called on the ejidatarios to respect the Official Standard NOM-015 of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), which regulates the use of fire in agricultural activities. However, no sanctions or supervision mechanisms were detailed before their breach, which raises doubts about the effectiveness of these recommendations.

Finally, it is reiterated that citizens should avoid approaching the affected areas and that any fire must be reported through the emergency number 911.
