In 2025 there were less fireworks, much more harmful

Up to 3,500 hectares affected

+ So far this year there have been 76 forest in Morelos, less than half of those reported in 2024

+ If the preliminary data of the Government is confirmed, each would have destroyed 46 hectares of forest on average

+ At least seven fires of those registered in the four months of the year exceeded the average destruction

The most recent report of the forest fire monitor of the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), registered 76 forest fires in Morelos, the lowest figure in the four years; However, the affected surface, estimated by the report in 1,560 hectares, could up to 3,500 in accordance with the Ministry of Sustainable , so that the 2025 fires are placed as the most harmful for forests and protected areas of the State.

Last , the Secretary of Sustainable Development of the Government of Morelos, Alan Dupré Ramírez, was optimistic about the effect that recent and those expected could have in the mitigation of risk of new fires in local forests; In statements to the media, he also recognized that, as a preliminary fact, up to 3,500 forest hectares would have been affected by the fires so far this year.

This data would mean that the 76 fires recorded in the state until May 2 affected an average surface of 46 hectares each, with the greatest affectation in the one that occurred in Santo Domingo Ocotitlán, Tepoztlán, which damaged more than 325 hectares.

The number of fires occurred in 2025 is radically lower than those that occurred since 2022. In that year, Morelos registered 210 fires. In 2023 the figure reached 151. And in 2024 163 were reported.

On damaged surfaces, in 2022 the affectation was recognized to 1,722 hectares, in 2023, the figure increased to 1,844; And in 2024, a record of 4,825 hectares affected by fire throughout the state territory was reached.

But if the number of fires with the damaged surface are associated, in 2022 the affectation of the fires of that year reached 8.2 hectares on average; In 2023, he reached 12.2 hectares average; In 2024 the damage was 29.6 on average; And for this 2025, if the estimation of sustainable development is considered, each of the 76 fires in forests and forests of Morelos would have damaged an average of 46 hectares, which would locate them as the most harmful in recent history. If it is calculated with the damaged surface already officially recognized by Conafor, 1,560 hectares, the average would be 20.5 hectares per fire, the worst in the last four years.

In addition to the one in Santo Domingo Ocotitlán there were at least six other fires in this year that exceeded the average of 46 hectares of damage in 2025. In Miacatlán, the activity of hunters caused damage in 151 hectares of low deciduous jungle; In Tlalnepantla, unknown causes originated two fires that destroyed: the first, 51 hectares and the second 69.7 pine forest. In Tepoztlán, another fire intentionally damaged almost 95 hectares of low jungle. Another intentional fire in Tlalnepantla caused the loss of 163 hectares of pine forest. And in Yautepec, still unknown causes caused the loss of 116 hectares of low jungle.
