The Civil Guard, within the events that it develops in Palma del Río (Córdoba) on the occasion of the 181st anniversary of the foundation of the body, has since Wednesday at the exhibition ‘Yesterday and today of the Civil Guard’ a sample to know the history of the Benemérita from its foundation to the present.
The opening of this exhibition, with material from the private collection of Juan de Dios Martín, a passionate from the Civil Guard who began to gather material with only eight years, has had the presence of Lieutenant Colonel Chief of Operations of the Command, Emilio Muñoz; the mayor of Palma del Río, Matilde Esteo; The Delegate of Sports and Civil Protection of the Provincial Council, Antonio Ramón Martín, and the Territorial Delegate of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural development of the Junta de Andalucía, Francisco Acosta.
The Civil Guard, founded in 1844 by the Duke of Ahumada during the reign of Isabel II, currently has 181 years of history summarized in an exhibition that, on the one hand, brings together almost twenty of the uniforms used at different times, from the alfonsin clothing to the tricorn.
They complete the exhibition ‘Yesterday and today of the Civil Guard’ a series of showcases with daily pieces and objects in the life of a guard, as well as a selection of decorations, including the Laureada cross of San Fernando.
In his speech, Esteo has applauded the generosity of Juan de Dios Martín for joining his exposure to “a few unforgettable days for palm of the river that helps, without a doubt, to identify ourselves already feel more attached to the Civil Guard, a body that watches over our security and whose closeness is noticeable daily both at the main level of the Palma del Río, and of the Company of Córdoba in general”.
For its part, Muñoz has affirmed that “the importance of this exhibition lies in the historical and sentimental value of the elements that compose it, a faithful reflection of what we are celebrating this week in Palma del Río: 181 years of life and service to the citizen of an institution such as the Civil Guard, which has always evolved and has managed to adapt to the times until it is positioned as the reference and better value.
Lieutenant Colonel also thanked the City Council of Palma del Río and the Provincial Council for its “invaluable collaboration” for the development of the events planned for the celebration of the Foundation of the Civil Guard in the town, which will culminate on May 13 with the main act in the Plaza Mayo de Andalucía.
Specifically, the exhibition ‘Yesterday and today of the Civil Guard’ can be visited at the Santa Clara Creative and Cultural Center, until May 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The last day, on Saturday, it opens from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
