Caracas, APR (Sputnik) .- Venezuela’s attorney general, Tarek William Saab, described Wednesday as a “triumph” of bilateral cooperation, extradition to Caracas, from El Salvador, by criminal Richard Billings Cardozo Urribarri.
“This important action is a triumph of International criminal cooperation, which as a Public Ministry struggles to keep active, whatever the situation of relations with other countries and consolidates the prestige and credibility of our institution as the head of the criminal action,” Saab said in a statement.
Cardozo Urribarri, a member of the criminal group “El Yiyi”, is accused of having been the author of an attack left by a deceased and three injured in 2023, in the Venezuelan state of Zulia (west).
The man was arrested after the Prosecutor’s Office issued the International Red Alert, and accused of the crimes of association to commit crimes, arms and ammunition, obstruction of freedom of commerce, terrorism, intentional homicide qualified for futile reasons and aggravated extortion.
SAAB thanked the support provided by the Attorney General of El Salvador and Interpol to make extradition.
“We will continue working in a joint way to achieve new actions within the framework of human rights protection,” he said.
The extradition of Cardozo Urribarri occurs in the middle of the tensions between the two countries for deportation to El Salvador of 252 Venezuelan migrants residing in the US.
These people were sent to the terrorism confinement center (CECOT), a maximum security prison.
On Tuesday, President Nicolás Maduro rejected the exchange proposed by his Salvadoran pair, Nayib Bukele, who raised the repatriation of the 252 deported in exchange for the release and delivery of an identical number of the thousands of “political prisoners” that accuses the Venezuelan government of maintaining in Caracas.
The US president, Donald Trump, invoked in March the Law of Foreign Enemies of 1798 to expel hundreds of Venezuelans over 14 years, arguing that they integrate the criminal band Train of Aragua, or for not having a US passport or permanent residence permit.
Through an agreement between Trump and the Bukele government, deported Venezuelans were sent to El Salvador, but Caracas ensures that these are common migrants and qualifies to the “kidnapping.” (Sputnik)
