Agreement between Russia and Venezuela includes the creation of a new financial architecture

The Chancellor of Venezuela, Yván Gil, described as a historical moment the signing of the Agreement of Strategic and Cooperation with Russia, in a meeting that marks a milestone in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

On a marked by the celebration of the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Russia, both countries took a decisive step towards deeper cooperation by signing a strategic association and cooperation agreement, said Bancaynegocios.

The act was held at the Kremlin, with the presence of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, in an event qualified by the Venezuelan Chancellor as “historical.”

Yván Gil told Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) that “today is historical (…) It is the that a Latin American country signs a treaty of this caliber, a treaty with these dimensions that covers all the spheres of cooperation”, highlighting the magnitude of the agreement for Venezuela.

From Moscow, Gil explained that the agreement covers fundamental areas such as politics, economy, energy, finance, science, technology, health, agriculture and security.

The established agreements were reviewed

Gil stressed that “each of the signed agreements and ‘each of the challenges’ both countries in these matters were reviewed’. He also stressed that the in Venezuelan imports to Russia, especially in agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables and fishing goods.

The Foreign Minister also stressed that this agreement feels the basis for a “new financial architecture” and a monetary exchange system between both nations. In that sense, he mentioned that in Venezuela the Russian payment system MIR has already been developed, which facilitates tourism and other exchanges.

As reported by the Russian presidency, this pact establishes principles and guidelines for the sustained of the long -term bilateral link.

Maduro said that “this meeting was fruitful and opens a ‘new stage in’ diplomatic” relationships, noting that both nations towards more solid and diversified cooperation.
