The Asturian town of Navelgas, in the Council of Tineo, will host between August 3 and 9 the World Gold Batery championship, an appointment that will bring together about 600 national and International participants.
Within the framework of the promotional acts prior to the championship, the Gold Batter association “Barciaecus” and the Asturias Gold Museum have opened this weekend at the Tineo Sample Fair the exhibition ‘Navelgas to the World’. The exhibition, composed of 14 panels, reviews the history of the search for gold in the town, from the Roman era to the present, and highlights the role of gold batting as an element of identity and international projection for the people.
The exhibition can be visited at the Museum of Gold from the weekend of May 17 and 18, coinciding with International Museum Day, and will remain open until the celebration of the World Championship in August. Third edition in Navelgas
The World Gold Batery Championship, organized by the ‘World Goldpanning Association’ and the ‘Barciaecus’ association, has the support of the Principality of Asturias and the City of Tineo, among other collaborators. It is the third time that Navelgas hosts this competition after the 2008 and 2015 editions.
Registration, open since March, have already exceeded 150 participants from 17 countries and the arrival of more than 800 visitors to the region during the event of the event is expected. The championship includes various official and unofficial categories, from individual and team tests to family and mixed modalities, promoting the participation of people of all ages and backgrounds.
During the competition, participants must extract as many golden cubes as possible in the shortest time, using the traditional bat, in qualifying rounds to the grand final.
In addition to the championship, Navelgas will offer parallel activities such as musical performances, markets and guided visits to its historic mines.
