The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has carried out an analysis of 14 body lotions for dry skin product.
To reach these conclusions, the OCU has performed a hydration test in a specialized laboratory using a corneometer (instrument used to measure hydration) on the skin of the forearm of a group of volunteers. This test determines that the 14 lotions are effective. It also indicates that the result in hydration of their respective formulas, based on water, oil, emulsifiers, moisturizers, occlusive and emollient is “perfectly comparable.”
The use tests, carried out by volunteers from unidentified boats, also share good assessments, both in ease of application, as in texture, moisturizing and soft skin. Although in this case more differences are appreciated: Eucerin is the best valued lotion; While Neutrogena and Natural Honey stand out for their lower fat sensation, and Nivea, Dove and Eucerin herself for her pleasant smell on the skin.
The environmental impact of the container does reveal greater differences, in this case in favor of Dove, which uses recycled material, as well as Yves Rocher, Weleda and Nivea. However, in all containers there is a product in the background that cannot be used.
The organization considers that the labeling is also improvable, especially in regard to allegations, such as “compatible with dermatologically proven skin” that attributes a feeling of being safer for the skin, when all cosmetics should be.
-However, the big difference is observed in the price, which varies between the 0.40 euro/100ml of some white brands, such as the ‘Nutre’ lotion of Deliplus (Mercadona) and the 10.20 euro/100ml of the ‘Lait Riche’ of L’Occitane in Provence, which means that it is 25 times more expensive. Both include some allergenic fragrance; Up to five the Mercadona product.
If this is an aspect that wants to avoid, you can opt for other lotions, such as ‘Lipikar Lait’ de la Roche Posay (3.90 euro/100ml) or ‘deep hydration’ of neutrogena (2.10 euro/100ml), ‘Cerave’s moisturizing lotion’ (3.60 euro/100 ml) or ‘xeracalm’ of Avene (5.20 euro/100ml).
Finally, the OCU clarifies that these lotions are recommended to treat slightly dry skin, more common in dry and cold climates where air conditioning and heating is frequently used, according to the station.
At this point, it indicates that, if you have dry or very dry skin, more moisturizing products with nutritious ingredients such as karité butter, ceramides and glycerin must be prioritized. In addition to using soft cleaners and avoiding long showers, more than 10 minutes, with very hot water, since they eliminate part of the skin fat and dehydrate it.
