Economy/May 1.- CCOO and UGT ask to stop the “fascist international”, upload wages and reduce the day

They encrypt 50,000 attendees to the demonstration of , with the presence of five ministers, but delegation reduces 12,000

MADRID, 1 (EUROPA )

CCOO and UGT have requested on May 1, which have described as the “most ” in history, unity to fight the fascist international who wants to destroy the rights conquered by the working class, continue uploading wages and reduce the working .

This has been transferred by the general secretaries of CCOO and UGT, Unai Sordo and Pepe Álvarez, at the close of in Madrid for the International Labor Day, which has started a few minutes later than 12.00 from Gran Vía-Alcalá and has ended around 2:00 p.m. in Plaza de España.

According to UGT calculations, the mobilization of Madrid has attended about 50,000 people, but Government delegation has reduced this figure to 12,000. This year, CCOO and UGT have called concentrations in more than 80 cities under the motto ‘Protect the conquered, winning future’.

The Concentration of Madrid has been attended by the Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, Elma Saiz, the Minister for Digital Transformation, Óscar López, the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, and the Minister of , Mónica García.

Problems at the beginning of the demonstration in Madrid

The demonstration in the capital has presented difficulties at its beginning, since the statements prior to the media have not been able to be carried out in “decent working conditions” for the press or “safely” because of the Madrid City Council, they have denounced from CCOO and UGT.

This is because, according to the unions, the Madrid City Council has hindered the demonstration delaying until beyond 11.00 in the morning the court of the Gran Vía because the authorization has not come despite the fact that the permits were made, they say from UGT.

Thus, initially, protesters have tried to the street without success to, later, the security forces proceed to cut the Gran Vía, and the unionists have had to make the statements in the middle of the way.

“Against the fascist international”

At the close of the act, the General Secretaries of CCOO and UGT have insisted that it must fight against “colonialism 4.0” initiated by the Trump administration with the new tariff policy, which is “intolerable.” To do this, they have asked Europe to “arouse” because “Trump and Putin want to end our rights.”

“The fascist international wants to end our rights. Where are they to up to Trump, who will ruin our industry, is trying to drown and take our rights?

In relation to the working day, they have launched a notice to the government ensuring that the cutting cut until 37.5 hours per week for 2025 is an “inalienable” issue for trade union organizations and have indicated that it would be a “fraud” that would take an amendment to the totality of this bill that has been agreed between the Government and the trade union organizations.

Thus, Sordo has asked the political groups to use “legitimate” roads to express their position on the norm through the debate in the Congress of the norm, since they have the “right” to express it, while Álvarez has stressed that it would be a “scam to democracy” not to open the proposition of law.

If this happened, the UGT general has warned that from the unions they will “pursue every day of the year (to political groups) to remind them that because of their fault the workers will have to 2.5 more hours.”

Continue uploading and reforming dismissal

On the other hand, both trade unionists have insisted that salaries and minimum interprofessional (SMI) salary (SMI) must continue to rise, as well as that it is necessary to reform the inadmissible dismissal in Spain because it has been more than a year since the European Committee said it must be renovated.

“Today the PP complains that the SMI is very close to the average salary of Spain. But I will tell you something, the SMI must rise much more because it must reach 60% of the average salary and companies will have to negotiate worthy conditions for workers,” Álvarez stressed.

On the other hand, this May 1, unions have also urged to address everything that has to do with occupational health and accidents, because “it cannot be” that in 2024 mortal accidents at work have risen 10%.

“More Curretas and Less Parasites”

Thus, Sordo has insisted that it is necessary “more currets and less parasites”, as well as a greater “public awareness and less social cannibalism.”

During the demonstration, both union leaders have also criticized that renewable energies are being put in the focus after Monday’s blackout and have insisted that the road must be renewables and energy autonomy in Spain and Europe.

“We must prevent some faces from taking advantage of Monday’s disaster to question energy efficiency. We need to deploy renewables with security and supply certainty, because it is a way to reach ,” said Deaf.

For its part, Álvarez has ended the mobilization asking that the cycle of conquests is not broken, because there is still “much” to do. “We have to continue advancing in the future. Long live on May 1, live the intentionality, live the working class,” he concluded.
