Xbox, from Microsoft, will raise the prices of its consoles, controls, own titles and other accessories, following in the footsteps of its competitors due to US tariffs that affect world supply chains.
In a blog post published on Thursday, Xbox announced that the prices of its products in the United States, Europe, Australia and the United Kingdom will rise.
The Xbox Series X console, more powerful, will now be sold for approximately $ 600 in the United States, which is an increase of $ 100.
The measure occurs a few weeks after Sony, a PlayStation manufacturer, raised the prices of its PlayStation 5 console in several markets, indicating that console manufacturers are preparing for the increase in manufacturing costs due to tariffs.
The PlayStation 5 Pro console is priced at around $ 700 in the United States.
Video game consoles are expected to be the main engine of the growth of the video game industry this year, with Nintendo preparing to launch in June its long -awaited Switch 2.
However, the high tariffs imposed by the Trump administration to the main manufacturing centers, such as Japan, China and Vietnam, have caused a price increase.
Some analysts have warned that these tariffs could hinder the growth of the sector, since the possible economic recession and increased inflation could lead consumers to reduce discretionary expenditure.
Nintendo resumed at the end of last month the early orders of the Switch 2, after initially delaying them in the United States due to uncertainty about tariffs.
Xbox will increase the prices of some own games to around $ 80, following the steps of Nintendo with “Mario Kart World”, which could establish a new standard in the sector in the face of the increase in development costs.
