Movie fans are delighted after the sequel to a nineties cult classic confirmed it’s release date

Film fans have admitted they’re “crying tears of ” after it was confirmed that Practical Magic will be released in theaters in September 2026.

The original Practical Magic film was released in 1998, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who descend from a long line of witches. The film follows the ’s love lives, which are cursed and sees the men they fall in love with die, until they can break the curse.

Warner Bros. revealed the exciting sequel via their Instagram with a text only teaser featuring Kidman and Bullock’s names, confirming they will appear. The clip also featured a voiceover from the two as they chant the following incantation: “Tooth of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the spell to mix. Sept. 18, 2026.”

The post was captioned: “The spell is cast. The date is set. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman . Only In Theaters September 18, 2026. Rewatch the original #PracticalMagic now streaming on MAX.”

Film fans were delighted by the news, as one person commented: “Crying tears of joy right now! I can’t wait!” and a shared: “OMG IM SO EXCITED.”

Others pointed out that the film needed to include a brilliant soundtrack, much like the , as someone wrote: “Stevie Nicks better be on that soundtrack!”

On X, formerly known as Twitter, the news got a similar reception as one person said: “If the Aunts aren’t in in, I’m out!” Whilst another added: “please to Goddess don’t let it be stupid or poorly done…We’ve waited too long. I’m wickedly euphoric.”

However some fans have been left disappointed the new film won’t be released until next year, 28 years after the first movie came out, as one frustrated person moaned: “That’s too far away. Nooo.”

Another added: “Why the f*** would you guys tell Us the date months ahead lmao stop doing ts.”

When the film was originally released, it received a mixed reception, but it’s since gone on to become a cult classic. Warner Bros. tried to expand the Practical Magic saga in 2019 with the prequel series ‘Rules of Magic’, but the HBO series was scrapped and never actually aired.

Susanne Bier is directing Practical Magic 2 from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the first movie. Bullock and Kidman, will produce the sequel alongside the original film’s producer Denise Di Novi.
