(Bloomberg) – Ford Motor Co. is increasing the sale prices of the models that it manufactures in Mexico for up to US $ 2,000, even after its maximum executive claimed that it would maintain prices to see how their rivals reacted to the tariffs of 25% imposed by President Donald Trump to cars.
The increases entered into force on May 2 and affect the small maverick trucks, the compact sports utilitarian vehicles Bronco Sport and the Electric Mustang Mach-E, according to a memorandum of the company to the dealers, which Bloomberg News had access.
A Ford spokesman confirmed the increases and said they reflect a combination of typical mid -year price settings and a certain impact of tariffs. Ford has not crossed the total cost of customers tariffs, and vehicles that are currently in the inventory of the dealers will not be affected, said the spokesman.

The measure highlights how car manufacturers are struggling to manage the increase in costs due to Trump tariffs without stopping car sales, which are favored by consumers who seek to buy before the taxes increase prices.
The executive director, Jim Farley, said last week that Ford would postpone the increase in prices until they see how their competitors react to Trump’s tariffs.
“We have to see what our competitors do, that is the key,” Farley told journalists at the company’s truck plant in Kentucky on April 30, where he said that his rivals face cost increases between US $ 5,000 and US $ 10,000 per vehicle due to tariffs. “Will they absorb them? Will they transfer them to customers? It will be an important decision, because the decision on prices is a competitive decision.”
Ford said this week that this year he expects an impact of US $ 2.5 billion for tariffs and that he hopes to compensate around US $ 1 billion with cost cuts. General Motors Co., the main importer of the United States cars, said it foresees an impact of up to US $ 5,000 million for tariffs this year.
Ford raised the prices of Mach-E to US $ 2,000, from Bronco Sport to US $ 1,200 and the Maverick up to US $ 1,150, according to the memorandum that the company sent last week to the dealerships, which Reuters previously reported. Some versions of these models will experience minor increases.
