MARATHON, Fla. -A man who was armed with an AR-15 took his life on Thursday night after firing against vehicles from the Monroe County Sheriff (MCSO) in Marathon, the authorities confirmed Friday morning.
According to MCSO spokesman, Adam Linhardt, the agents responded to an apartment complex in Boulevard hat around 10 pm after receiving reports on a man who threw objects from a roof.
He said the agents arrived at the scene and heard the sound of shooting while approaching the building.
“The agents were away from their vehicles when the armed man began to shoot the vehicles,” Linhardt said in an email to 10 news.
According to Linhardt, “a perimeter such as the SWAT team and additional officers of the Florida road patrol, customs and border protection of the United States, and the Florida Fishing and Wildlife Conservation Commission were also established.
Linhardt said that two helicopters from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s office, one of which he transported a sniper of the forces of the order, also responded to the area.
He said that those who were aboard one of the helicopters saw the still body of the suspect on the ceiling.
The Swat team members approached the roof and confirmed that the suspect had died of an apparent self -inflicted bullet wound.
The authorities continued working to identify the suspect on Friday morning.
Linhardt confirmed that no public agent was injured in the shooting.
“I feel relieved that no public agent or member has been injured during this incident,” said Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “I want to thank the brave agents and officers who responded and ran towards the danger to guarantee the security of our community.”
