Marileidy Paulino the track star who started running barefoot, already has two diamonds to her name.
The Dominican athlete, who just a few weeks ago was proclaimed world champion in Budapest, successfully defended her title in the women’s 400 meters in the Diamond League Finals athletics 2023.
Paulino won with great authority in a race that brought together the entire 400 m world podium. The Dominican did not go well at all and she passed the first 100 meters in sixth place, but at the halfway point of the race she had already taken the lead. From there to the finish line, an acceleration for which no rival had an answer.-
Marileidy Paulino won with a time of 49.58 seconds, well ahead of the Pole Natalia Kaczmarek, runner-up in Budapest and double Olympic medalist in Tokyo 2020, who arrived in 50.38. Third place went to the Dutch Lieke Klaverwith 50.47.-
This second diamond is another success to add to the great year 2023 of Marileidy Paulino, where she was also world champion in Budapest (the first Dominican woman with individual world gold) and champion of the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, where she also achieved the mark Olympic minimum for Paris 2024.
A great season that he hopes to put the finishing touch to next month at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
