Copa Libertadores: Rosario Central appealed against the Conmebol sanction

Rosario Central appealed the sanction that Conmebol imposed on the club after the incidents that occurred in the match against Peñarol in the Gigante de Arroyito, where the player of the Uruguayan team, Maxi Olivera, suffered a blow from a projectile thrown from the rogue stands.

The Peñarol defender received a stone at the end of the match in which Central won 1-0 in Group G of the Copa Libertadores de América and due to the situation, Conmebol decided that the Argentine club would play behind closed doors against Atlético Mineiro and the closing of the South Tribune against Caracas.

The Rosario Central statement

Club Atlético Rosario Central informs that after having received last week from Conmebol the ruling with the sanction for the events that occurred on the occasion of the match against Peñarol, for the first date of the Group Phase of the Copa Libertadores, our institution decided to request the reasons for the ruling issued by the Disciplinary Commission of the South American Football Confederation, with the intention of appealing it.

The fundamentals were sent by Conmebol on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 30. And this Wednesday, May 1, after noon, the Club presented the appeal of the ruling requesting urgent treatment.

From this moment on, our institution was awaiting the resolution of the appeal court, which will be communicated immediately after being received by the Club.

Although he knows that it is difficult for Conmebol to rectify the ruling, The canalla leadership hopes not to play against Atlético Mineiro behind closed doors. The response should be within 48 or 72 hours.

El Canalla will host the Brazilian team next Tuesday, May 7, a key match in their aspirations to qualify for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Russo’s team has four units after three presentations and is second to Mineiro, which has an ideal score; Peñarol is third with three and will visit Caracas, which closes the area with one unit.
