Checo Pérez, Red Bull driver, stated that he does not believe that Max Verstappen will leave Red Bull after the departure of engineer Adrian Newey.

MIAMI.- The departure of Adrian Newey from Red Bull shook Formula 1, but Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez believes that the team has prepared itself to replace each person who works there and although the designer is a key man, he does not think that cause more defections, and that includes his teammate Max Verstappen.

During Thursday’s media attention, Checo Pérez had to answer many questions about Newey, because, of course, it has been the news of the week and for a long time, perhaps the biggest since the announcement of Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Ferrari .

“I don’t think (that Max or anyone else will leave), I think everyone is totally committed to the team, with a tremendous season once again, the future looks bright. I don’t see any more changes in that sense,” said Checo Pérez.

On the other hand, without saying that no one is indispensable, Checo Pérez pointed out the strength of Red Bull and the work of Christian Horner to have and prepare people to do the job after Newey’s announcement.

“It’s obviously not ideal for someone like Adrian (Newey), who has been tremendous for our team and organization. He has become a very good friend of mine in this time that we have worked together.

“At the end of the day there are times in life, he’s spent like 20 years at Red Bull, he probably wants to do something else and that’s fair.

“Red Bull is in a good moment, it is a very good organization, with Pierre (Waché) with Enrico (Balbo) the whole (aerodynamics) group is very strong and we are looking to the future.”

Regarding the destination of Adrian Newey, who is speculated to be Ferrari, Checo Pérez said that wherever he arrives he will make an immediate impact.

“Working with Adrian is much more than a designer, he can influence strategies, set-ups and he can influence our race weekend,” he added.
