Sainz: “I lost three or four tenths due to a blockage in Q3”

Carlos Sainz will start fifth in the Miami GP sprint. The Ferrari pointed upwards from free practice, but in qualifying everyone suffered more or less with uncertain grip. Verstappen took pole ahead of Leclerc and Pérez and Carlos fell to fifth place with a mistake in the last hard braking, at the end of the longest straight of the Autodromo.

“It has been a quite complicated classification for me. I had a very good feeling in training which allowed me to gain confidence, but in qualifying I lacked a lot of rear grip and I couldn’t make good laps. In Q3 I had a good lap with the soft one, but I blocked and I have lost three or four tenths. It could have gone better, but the sensations were not there,” she explained.

“We had a strange change in behavior in the car from practice to qualifying. We suffered a lot with the grip, it was difficult to complete the laps and do the sectors so we have to see why, because I suffered throughout the classification. With the soft the lap was good, but I made a mistake in turn 17 and lost the lap. I’m not happy, but I hope the weekend can turn around starting on Saturday.” Said Sainz, who is looking higher for the rest of the grand prix.
