Raphael Varane is already Manchester United history. The English club has just confirmed the goodbye of the French defender at the end of the season. With a message of “merci” and a photograph of the player, the Old Trafford entity posted confirmation of his departure on social networks.

Next, Varane’s reaction came to light. “I will see you all at Old Trafford to say goodbye to the last home game of this season. “It’s going to be a very emotional day for me,” was one of the phrases intoned in the published video. “They have been fantastic years, playing for this special club and wearing that shirt… I fell in love with the club and the fans. You have to play for United to understand what that means. Even though we have had a difficult season, I am very positive for the future. The new owners come with a clear plan and a great strategy,” she admitted.

The center back arrived in the Premier in the summer of 2021 after making history at Real Madrid (the agreement was around 50 million euros). The then French international wanted to give his professional career a turn, to try other leagues. Varane’s progression on English soil has gone from strength to strength, and has been questioned for some time. Even in the winter market there was talk of him leaving Old Trafford early.

Finally, he has fulfilled his entire contract: 93 games and two goals. Varane finishes with the Red Devils and as of June he becomes a free agent. There is already a lot of talk about his future. Two routes are open: return to Ligue 1 or go to the MLS.

United official statement:

“The decorated defender joined the club from Real Madrid in August 2021 and was memorably introduced in front of our home fans at the Theater of Dreams, ahead of the opening weekend victory over Leeds United. Varane has brought a lot of class and experience to the team throughout his 93 appearances so far. The Frenchman also helped win our first major trophy in six years, lifting the 2023 Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium. Newcastle United were eliminated in a 2-0 win by Erik ten Hag’s men, with Rapha showing all his experience alongside Lisandro Martínez. The 31-year-old has scored two goals for the Reds, his first goal coming in a home win over Brentford a couple of years ago. Varane’s second effort earned us three points from our 1-0 victory against Wolves, at the start of this current 2023/24 campaign. However, what Rapha is most recognized for is his unflappable work at the heart of the defence, as he has demonstrated his undoubted quality since he arrived at the club. To date he has played 67 games in the Premier League, 58 of them as a starter. The centre-back has been absent since the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on April 4, but is currently working hard to recover from his injury and hopes to be available again before the end of the campaign. There are Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion, before the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25. “Everyone at United thanks Rapha for his service and wishes him the best for the future.”
