Are you going or staying? Alex Escobar’s future with América de Cali

He Cali America has put an end to the uncertainty over his future by announcing Jorge ‘Polilla’ Da Silva as his new coach. The experienced Uruguayan coach, who already led the team between 2017 and 2018assumes the position with the aim of straightening the course of the club in the second semester.

Da Silva’s arrival comes after the departure of Venezuelan César Farías, who left the position after the poor results of the first semester, including the elimination in the Copa Sudamericana and the absence in the final home runs.

After Farías’ departure, Alex Escobar took charge of the team on an interim basis, as he had already done at the beginning of the year after the departure of another coach. Although Da Silva has not confirmed the role that Escobar will occupy within the coaching staff, he has made it clear that “His position has not yet been defined”.

What Moth said about Escobar

Regarding the work that Escobar will have with the club, Polilla only highlighted that he needs people with experience like him who can contribute to the team and Escobar. He is the type of person who knows very well how the scarlet club works.

“Well, I think he is a person who can contribute a lot in whatever role he has. Not yet, we haven’t talked much about what his role is going to be in the coaching staff, but he is a person who knows the club very well, who knows very well what the América player is, knows how the footballer has to feel the t-shirt. So, you always have to have people who can provide benefits for your work.”

Before answering the question about Alex Escobar’s future in the institution, Polilla spoke about his reunion with his former teammate on the court and said that it was very nice to see Escobar and remember things they experienced in América.

“I just saw him there, it’s been many years since we saw each other. The truth is that it made me very happy, because we were with him the entire period that I was with América as a player. We were companions, he had to experience very nice things. “It is always very pleasant to see each one of them, it brings me great happiness, because we were together for many years.”
