PHOENIX — Braxton Garrett outpitched Arizona star Zac Gallen for the first shutout of his career, Otto Lopez hit a two-run single and the Miami Marlins beat the Diamondbacks 3-0 on Friday. .

The Marlins have won eight of their last 11 games after starting the season 10-31.

Garrett (1-0) had his best outing since returning from a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the first month and a half of the season. The left-hander dominated for most of his route, only allowing four hits while he struck out six.

This was not only Garrett’s first major league shutout, but also his first complete game. He threw 95 pitches, retiring Christian Walker on a long fly ball to center for the final out.
