Although the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellín was not the venue for the Betplay League finals this year, that time will be used by local authorities to beautify the sports scene and leave it “titino” for the event that it will host in the coming months: the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup which is based in Colombia.

For that purpose, and also in order to unite the bands of the two city teams – which have carried out acts of violence in recent classics – the Mayor’s Office of Medellín began this Monday “Stadium week”, which will last until next Friday, May 31, and will feature days of cleaning, decoration, planting, maintenance of planters, adaptation of public spaces not only of the Atanasio, but of the sports unit in general; as well as “awareness raising in health, recreation and environmental education,” explained the local administration.

And it is that the Atanasio Girardot sports unit, as well as many scenes in the city, suffered evident abandonment as a result of the mismanagement of the previous administration, fact that was denounced by EL COLOMBIANO in several reports in which the deterioration of settings and their structures was exposed that even put at risk the integrity of professional athletes or those who carry out physical activity on a daily basis.

“We are developing a recovery, cleaning and decoration plan for the entire sports unit. We have the collaboration of Inder, the Management of the Center and Strategic Territories, and we hope to recover the park –of Banderas–, which is one of the most beautiful in Colombia,” said the merchant of the sector, Conrado Ibarra, since his union will also be part of the beautification days of the maximum sporting venue for the people of Antioquia.

The manager of the Center and Strategic Territories, Juliana Coral Posada, assured that with the civic initiative they hope to “regain trust and fall in love with Medellín again, we need to work with concrete actions. “We are going to work on the transformation of this emblematic site of our city.”
